Yes, the first trial commences for Produce 101’s actual producers (if you think the fans are the Producers of this show like how it was market… well do I got news for you) and went with little hitch. Not suprising because Chief Pee Dee Kim Yong Bum and Pee Dee Ahn Joon Young have already admitted publicly that the the whole producing team did manipulate the votes of the show.
BUT did the defendant threw in a curveball! Apparently, even though they did admit to all charges of vote manipulation, they want you honor, the judge to consider the fact that these votes might not have been manipulated with malicious intent, since they were ACTUALLY REQUESTED by the certain trainees. It totally started in Season 1, but the service was renewed for a Season 2, 3, and 4 because the service was in SUCH HIGH DEMAND.
Through their lawyer, Ahn Joon Young and Kim Yong Bum admitted to manipulating text votes. However, the lawyer added that votes were manipulated due to trainees who wanted to leave the program.
The lawyer said, “Defendant Kim Yong Bum heard that a certain trainee in Season 2 did not want to be in the debut lineup, so he understood that as the trainee’s intent to leave and rose the rankings of the trainees who were ranked below him. Although it was not a transparent method, it was not due to personal interest or improper bribery.”
“Defendant Ahn Joon Young confirmed a certain trainee’s desire to leave in the first preliminary round of Season 1, so he took action after reporting to CP Kim Yong Bum and receiving approval. It was not due to bribery,” the lawyer continued.
I know these folks are probably doing this to minimize the sentencing that they will eventually get. Even with this understanding, it does seem like the Produce’s PD are still trying not to “own up to their mistakes 100%” at ruining several trainees dream at debut. But then again, I really want to applaud them for admitting their mistake when they didn’t really have to, as we have seen with last year cases in KPop industry, that’s already a very very manly thing to do. Maybe Seungri and “The myth the legend the boy” Ex-CEO Yang can take some notes.
