All these talks about PATHOGENS!

I might not know much about economics, but I can say with a fact that Asia is definitely the world’s leading exporting these PATHOGENS THIS YEAR to make everyone sick it seems like! First it was Corona Virus or should I say “the-disease-to-see-if-your-white-friends-were-racist-assuming-that-you-were-CHINA-but-then-again-japan-and-south-korea-is-being-laid-low-also”. This virus has got everybody contributing, including idols who want to free brownie points by contributing face masks to hospitals that are running low on it. HA this will be the only time I sound very white, what an ASIAN problem, thank you for ME who is seperated a body of water away from this disaster! Seriously though, everyone stay safe out there.

Not only is China’s corona-virus is becoming VIRAL news at the moment even though it has not spread to the West, another disease from South Korea is also taken headlines and this one HAS taken over the west. This South Korea’s PARASITE has got our GLORIOUS PRESIDENT criticizing it, and frankly I TOTALLY AGREE. To be honest, what seems like a hot take these days, as an asian I’m glad that “Parasite” swept the Oscars, taking home “Best Picture”. As an KPop fan…. let’s say observer I’m also glad that “Parasite” swept the MAJOR American award for films because that means if BTS was really THAT big and widespread -and not a small minority buying 10 copies of each album and taking hours to stream the video on youtube and not even listening and just streaming for numbers- they would have got at least NOMINATED for the Grammys. Oh they were worked against by the rich white men and their grammys? Well Parasite, a SOUTH KOREAN LANGUAGE FILM, must have definitely faced the same obstacle and yet it suceeded, something very nice to see although I would actually prefer, here me out, that Oscars stay “US oriented film”. The reason why I say that is I never got the feeling that Oscars was trying to be international like Cannes Film Festival. Sure if they start now, I would be ready for it but I don’t think anyone else is, or at least the majority of americans are ready to see their music award year after year nominating “American” films and now suddenly transition to a more international affair. I have a gut feeling that the Oscars just wanted this year to be an “exception” and next year it will go right back to nominating “American, American, American” which is sad because if you are going to “open the door” of oppurtunity, at least keep it open for a while before you go straight back to being “nativist”.

As for the film itself, I don’t like “Parasite” that much. Now hear me out, I think it deserves the win, I think it’s a good plot and good cimenatography. I also think it couldn’t come at a better time, when Election 2020 is in full force and the conversation of wealth inequality is raging again and espcially the frontrunner of Democrats having never taken any money from “billionaires”. I just don’t think the movie itself, for me, is “unique”. It’s nothing about class warfare that has been said before, it is not like “eye opening”, it doesn’t open any new doors on the subject and I guess that’s fine, not all films/great films required new doors to be open on their themes, but that’s why I don’t think the film deserve all the hype it does, sure hype it up cause it’s almost like the first foreign film to win Oscar “Best Picture”, at least in recent memory, but like the movie is good but not “SOOOOO AWESOMEEEE”. More importantly though, I think the film “Parasite” strong point is not in its portrayal of “class warfare”, I think the main selling point for me is “Parasite” connects “worlds”. It build bridges because even though the East and the West might be culturally different and threaten to basically nuke each other in trade or in actual weapons, the wealth gap is evident in both hemispheres and the life of the poor in this film (they worked hard but actually didn’t go anywhere) is almost analogous to the Western poor. I think to be successful it definitely takes more than hard work, I think that the idea that “hard work 100% yield awesomeness” is totally false and believing in that idea (cause it sounds so believable) that’s espouse by EVERYBODY and when it doesn’t work out, we feel lied too and we react very aggressively. Hard work is needed, but the other 20% or 10% is literally/sadly just luck. My blog here might not be as big as others although I work hard at it (not as hard as I would like of course) almost as hard as other big blogs. I am just waiting for luck to swing around the corner to be honest….

Aren’t we all?

PS PS. ALSO I WOULD LIKE TO SAY A BIG LOL THAT THE FILM ON CLASS WARFARE THAT KINDA PAINT THE RICH IN A BAD LIGHT WON THE OSCARS BECAUSE OF THE RICH. ALSO NOW THAT THE FILM IS BIG, LOL WHEN THE COUNTRY IS SUFFERING THEY ARE EATING DINNER WITH THE PRESIDENT LOL LOL LOL LOL. A REAL CATCH 22 TO BE HONEST CAUSE ALL FILMS ARE WON ONLY IF THEY ARE BACKED BY THE RICH. OR AS BERNIE HAVE FOUND OUT, SOMEHOW ABLE TO CONVINCE MY BROKE ASS COLLEGE FRIENDS TO DONATE $20 EVEN THOUGH THEY IN MASSIVE DEBT.
