From the minds that brought you the now defunct show of Produce 101, Mnet has finally decided on what it want to do for the show “farewell” party after deciding, kind of smartly, not to renew it for a 5th season. Mnet have decided drum roll please drum roooollllllll to use its ill gotten gains to give itself a “well earned?” remodeling after 25 years. The new magic logo, the new face of Mnet! ISSSSSSSSS……
Crappy LOGO DESIGN! YAYYYYYYY! Congratulations Mnet, if your channel couldn’t get any worse. For me, this logo seems to contained too much color, I think they would have fared better if they have stuck to the simple, yet kind of elegent white M surrounded by a pink background. Now other than it looking like a knock off from the Playstation logo that many people have point out, I know the center P looking letter is suppose to be a music note (after a long hard look) but I don’t understand why they used a green half circle compared to like a rectangle. I know a typical music note, like the note for A (la) that part to the right of the straight line do curve down making some sort of hook like so….
So I get it, when translate to abstract lines, it does look more like a half circle than a rectangle. But the problem for me is when people usually draw music notes, say for a cartoon next to a character that is whistling, they draw a straight line there or omit the line altogether to go with the line and then a basic circle to the left of that line. For me and I think for a lot of people that has become the SYMBOL for the music note, espcially when it’s just a lone note and not a whole music sheet. That’s why it actually took me a bit because to finally saw that Mnet was trying to draw out a music note, the symbol did not fit with the pre-conditioned symbol of a music note in my mind. Therefore not only is this logo, for me, poor designed using too much color, it doesn’t represent seem to represent what it is intending to represent. A logo is a part of a brand, a corporation identity, but maybe that’s where the genius of this logo lies. It represent Mnet very accurately I would say. I get that Mnet was trying to be precise and accurate in its depiction of a music note in its new logo, and I get that “Produce 101” sounds like a really good show on paper letting fans “produce” their own favorite group out of a selected large pool of trainees. But in trying to replicate accurate the music note in the logo, something just went so wrong just like Mnet “Produce 101” show in trying to make a fair music competition to give prospective trainees a shot at debuting with a sizable hyped fan base. So wrong in fact that in the end it doesn’t look like a music note, in the end it didn’t look (and it wasn’t) a fair show both turned out absolute crappy even though the intent of goodness and the intent of “this is going to be EXACTLY right” seems to be there. In that respect, the logo IS who Mnet is after the recent investigation wrapped up, a try hard channel trying to make something exact and precise only for the end product to turn to absolute shiz. Makes you wonder if they would have been better off with just a ducking line and a circle to the left.
